sometimes the best advice is to sit and wait
be still and pray
why rush into something
without giving yourself time
time to think
time to breath
time to be
the new year ushers in an
annual
emotional response
feeling compelled to clean and organize
(isn't that what all the magazines tell us?)
restructure
or at least attempt to restructure
my days
my weeks
the months ahead
so that this will be a more productive year
through resolutions
and a well chosen word to motivate
and guide my steps
along the way
at the same time
looking in the eyes of those I love
so dearly
feeling the bitter sweetness of
passing time
wishing I could hold on tightly and prevent its
momentum forward
filling a new calender
with names and birthdays
flipping through each month with the fear
that the days will fly by
as fast
in a blink
melancholy rests here
teaching
as it does
that each moment is meant to be lived
to its fullest
looking back
at what has been
knowing that dance is over
worrying about the future
planning
if we entertain that folly
for a day that may never come
all we really have is
right now
this moment
this gift
to hold
with all its messy
beautiful
unpredictable
blessed
potential
and
finding
peace and calm
for they will come
as they always do
when we
release
and
be.
