How did it get late so soon?
It's night before its afternoon.
December is here before its June.
My goodness how the time has flewn.
How did it get late so soon?
--Dr. Seuss
When I read this recently on
a fellow blog...
I felt it summed up my thoughts
about time
precisely.
The philosophy of Dr. Seuss!
I will sit and ponder over
a cup of tea.
of the holiday shopping time
we took a break and stopped
for a sit-down dinner.
A conversation ensued
that went something like this.
Joey, to me, in his teenaged way...
"I've realized something...that when
you (meaning me) talk...
your ears stop working."
To which I responded...
"Well, I've heard it said
that God has blessed us with two ears
and one mouth so we
would talk less and
listen more."
He sat staring at me with a perplexed...astounded
expression...processing what I just said
and followed with...
"You do realized you just slammed yourself!"
Didn't I?
Then I added,
"That's right...even I need to remember
to listen more."
It was an odd and funny moment
that keeps replaying in my mind.
A Freudian slip?
Perhaps.
Something to explore further?
Definitely.
Especially since it keeps presenting itself to me.
Little reminders in the
form of Yogi Tea's
little words of wisdom.
Now please don't think I rely
on fortune cookies to guide me...
but when a thought persistently
picks and chips at your brain...
maybe,
just maybe, mind you...
one needs to stop and take notice.
hoping to ward-off
the many germs I came
in contact with over
the holly jolly holiday.
in that same line of thinking...
I was being told to basically,
shut-up!
I don't know how it got started, but
I've heard that people
will often choose a word each year
to describe their hopes...dreams...
ambitions...
I have never participated in this
endeavor...but
apparently a word has chosen me...
LISTEN.
It's a good word.
It carries much depth.
Not an easy word.
Not for me anyway.
To all who has an ear...listen to what the Spirit is saying...
Let everyone with ears to hear listen!
This is my Son, the Beloved: listen to Him!
The true source of all wisdom.
Words worth listening to.
Happy New Year Friends.
So many comments, where do I start? Okay, mothers get busy and don't always allow enough time to hear but as a sister and friend, you have always given me your time to listen. And I thank you for that. I too have chosen a word- relax. You know along the lines of 'Be still and know that I am God'. Please feel free to remind me of this when I seem to have forgotten:). Love- Tina
ReplyDeleteHi Jenny,
ReplyDeleteI thought you might like to know the history of how 'One Word' was started.
You can find more info at myoneword.org
This year my one word is 'Boundless.' (Last year I chose 'outreach' -to reach out, and outreach my previous goals, in addition to Christian outreach.). Boundless is to remind me to reach past unnecessary boundaries/borders, and to achieve boundless energy, commitment etc. Love, Susie
My message left off the following: One Word was started by Pastor Mike Ashcraft of Port City Church, in Wilmington, NC. He started this years ago, for his church, for for himself, to get past the disappointment of broken resolutions.
ReplyDeleteThank you sisters for your words of wisdom...and for always 'being there' for me as well. I love you! Relax...Boundless...good words!
